Offline-first: building AI apps that work without the internet
Why every Nevronus app treats the network as optional — and the engineering choices that make it possible.
Many of the people we build for work in places where mobile data is slow, expensive or simply absent — farms, rural clinics, health camps. An app that freezes without a connection is an app they stop using. So we design every product offline-first.
The local database is the source of truth
Screens read from an on-device database, never directly from the network. Sync runs in the background and pushes or pulls only what has changed. If the connection drops halfway, nothing is lost.
Run the model on the device when you can
Where accuracy allows, we ship compact models that run on the phone itself — Cattle Pal’s screening works with no connection at all. When a task needs a larger model, the app queues the request and tells the user clearly what will happen.
Cache aggressively, fetch rarely
Images and reference data are cached with long lifetimes and immutable keys, which keeps apps fast and keeps cloud costs — and our users’ data bills — low.
Be honest about state
Users should always know whether something is saved locally, syncing or synced. Small, clear status indicators build more trust than any loading spinner.
These principles shape everything we build, from Poultry Pal to LuneraiScan. If you’re planning an app for low-connectivity environments, we’d love to hear about it.
